Instant Pot Soapnut Brew
Organic Soapnuts getting ready to be turned into the best laundry detergent you’ll ever use.
I don’t personally own an Instant Pot, but I love that our customers experiment and find the best and easiest way to use our beloved soapnuts in their own personal cleaning routine. Here’s another awesome testimonial and detailed suggestion on how to easily prepare your own Shecology® Organic Golden Soapnuts into an All-Purpose Cleaning Brew!
“I love my new method for making soap! Three handfuls of Shecology soapnuts and about 12 cups of water are all I need. There is no need to precisely measure my amounts. I put them in my Instantpot and pressure cook it for an hour, on high pressure. When finished, I unplug it and let it cool before I decant my soap. I pour the cooled liquid soap through a tea strainer set over a funnel, into a gallon water jug.
I store my soap in my refrigerator door and use this as laundry detergent. It works better, costs less, and I feel great about putting less chemicals into my septic system. Which also means, less potential chemicals can infiltrate our well water.” - Rebecca
What you’ll need:
Shecology Soap Nuts
Instant Pot
Strainer
Funnel
Empty Container
Water
Directions for liquid Laundry Detergent:
Put 12 c. water and 3 handfuls of soapnuts into an instant Pot and pressure cook for 1 hour.
Let cool.
Put strainer above funnel and strain liquid into container.
Cap and store in refrigerator OR add 1/2 c. white vinegar to make shelf stable.
Use 1/4 c. for AWESOME laundry detergent
Compost used soap nuts or …..
Take it one step further:
Add 2 cups of hot water to used soap nuts (keep in Instant Pot)
Swish around and let sit until water cools. You will see there are still suds left and this liquid should be the color of weak tea.
Once cool repeat strain / funnel but this time into a 16 oz. spray bottle.
Add a splash of white vinegar to make shelf stable OR refrigerate brew.
This all-purpose cleaning brew cleans everything!!
